Southwestern
Community Services, Inc. has formed a Resource
Development Committee (RDC). Led by the agency's
Development Director, the RDC's goal is to
formally establish a philanthropic giving program
within the agency.
The agency currently receives a modest amount of
funding from private individuals, foundations and corporations.
The RDC plans to significantly expand this effort
by engaging the SCS Board of Directors as well as
to invite other community members to assist with
this endeavor.
Two SCS staff members attended the year-long
Training Institute created by Giving Monadnock
(GM) as an initial step toward this goal. Based at
Antioch College, GM is attempting to increase the
level of philanthropic giving throughout the
Monadnock Region. The GM Training Institute
brought in experienced, high caliber trainers and
presenters from throughout the country. A
"second-level" training is being planned
for the Autumn and Winter of 2002/2003 for those
organizations who completed the initial
institute's training. SCS intends to take part.
Overall, the agency's Senior Staff is excited
about this opportunity. It is seen as an effort
that will result in a healthier organization that
is better understood and utilized by the community
as a whole.
Anyone interested in assisting with this effort or
seeking to contribute financially to the important
work being accomplished by SCS is encouraged to
